The Mayor of the City of Miami, Francis Suarez, tweeted on Tuesday that he will “take the lead” and be the first to accept Bitcoin as a salary among civil servants in the city, and is “100% using Bitcoin.”

Suarez is a strong supporter of Bitcoin and has been advocating for turning Miami into a new digital financial center. Earlier this year, he stated that he plans to include Bitcoin on the city’s balance sheet and plans to use Bitcoin to pay municipal workers’ salaries and taxes.

The mayor of Miami is also an attorney and holds a position in a private equity firm. His tweet on Tuesday seemed to refer to his salary in the public sector, and as of 2018, his salary as mayor was $97,000.
