According to CoinDesk, on September 8, at the Senate Special Committee on “Australia as a Technology and Financial Center”, two cryptocurrency exchanges, Aus Merchant and Bitcoin Babe, stated that they have been repeatedly refused service by banks for no reason.

Michael Minassian, the regional head of the global payment company Nium, testified that Australia is the only country among 41 other countries that refuses to provide banking services for Nium’s remittance services.

And Bitcoin Babe founder Michaela Juric also told the committee that in her seven-year history of small business, her banking services have been terminated 91 times. Juric stated that banks are taking an “anti-competitive” stance because cryptocurrencies pose a threat to traditional finance. It is reported that the purpose of the committee is to review the country’s federal policy framework around cryptocurrency and blockchain technology.
